Sergio Ramos becomes Spain's second most-capped player

Spain's 3-0 victory over Turkey in Group D on Friday will be cause for a double celebration for La Roja as Sergio Ramos overtook Xavi Hernandez to become his nation's second most-capped player.

Now Spain's most-capped outfield player with 134 appearances to his name, Ramos still sits behind Iker Casillas who has a total of 167 caps.

As Spain moved comfortably through to the knockout round of Euro 2016 having won both their group games so far, Ramos looks set to make further headway closing the gap between him and Casillas with the latter having been benched so far in this tournament, in favour of Manchester United's David De Gea.

With some now citing Spain as early favourites in the competition thanks to Juventus striker Alvaro Morata's brace as well as a Nolito's 37th-minute strike, this could be the fourth major international success the Real Madrid captain is involved in. Ramos, 30, was also part of Spain's 2008 and 2012 European Championship wins, as well as a World Cup victory in 2010.

Turkey, however, will now struggle to progress beyond the group stage of the tournament after losing their first two matches, and will need to beat Czech Republic in their final game by a comfortable margin if they are to stand any hope of avoiding an exit.

Both teams' group campaigns will conclude on Tuesday when Ramos' side meets his Real teammate Luka Modric in their final group game against Croatia.
