Cristiano Ronaldo equals Luis Figo's Portugal caps record vs. Iceland

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the joint-leading appearance maker for Portugal after being named in the starting XI against Iceland for their first match in Group F of Euro 2016.

Ronaldo, 30, is now level with the legendary Luis Figo on 127 caps for his country, and has scored 58 goals in his 126 games before the tournament began.

The Real Madrid forward could become the first player in history to score in four different European Championships, while he is also tied with Nuno Gomes for the most Euro goals in Portuguese history (six).

By being named in the XI, Ronaldo has broken Gomes' record of caps at the Euros, with his appearance against Iceland his 15th in the competition.

That puts him just one game short of the tournament record, jointly shared at 16 games by Lilian Thuram (France) and Edwin van der Sar (Netherlands).
