Stephan Lichsteiner: Switzerland must be more ambitious at Euro 2016

Switzerland captain Stephan Lichtsteiner believes some players will have to change their mentality if they are to rival Europe's top teams.

The Swiss -- who have never made it out of the group stages at the European Championship -- did push Argentina to extra-time in the round of 16 at the World Cup two years ago but Juventus defender Lichtsteiner, 32, wishes more of his teammates had experience at big clubs.

"For me, it's very difficult because I come from a club where everything is perfect, where you work every day on the small details that will win titles," the five-time Serie A champion told L'Equipe.

"Here it's different. We have a good few players who are used to defending by leaving 20 metres between them and their goal rather than 50 or 60 metres.

"We have a lot of very good players but they're satisfied with reaching the last 16.

"During qualification for the Euros, we saw talent but we have huge room for improvement.

"There's still lots and lots of work to be done to win titles or to make the knockout stages more easily."

Switzerland will take on Albania in their first Euro 2016 game in Group A on Saturday, in what is their third appearance at the European Championship.
