Italy players have places to play for against Finland - Antonio Conte

Italy coach Antonio Conte is expecting to see who warrants a place in his team for Euro 2016 in a friendly against Finland on Monday night.

The Squadra Azzurra play their final match at Verona's Stadio Marc' Antonio Bentegodi before flying out to Montpellier on Wednesday, and Conte is expecting his team to resolve the last remaining selection puzzles he has in his mind ahead of Italy's European Championship opener against Belgium on June 13.

"This is our last game before Euro 2016 and clearly it's an important test," Conte said at a news conference in Verona.

"It's a way for us to check whether the work we've done these past two and a half weeks has sunk in. I need to have answers from some of my players who are recovering from injury too.

"There will be some changes, but not too many because we're getting closer to the European Championship and it's important that we find the right balance."

Finland were chosen as opponents for Italy due to similarities they share with group opponents Sweden, and Conte is convinced his side will be given a serious test.

"I'm not expecting it to be a spectacular game because Finland are a very defensive side, so we're going to have to have a lot of patience and search for chances to score while preventing them from countering," he said.

"It's going to be a difficult and challenging test, but nobody wants to shy away from it. We're heading into the tournament with some good technical and tactical training sessions behind us. We're in good condition physically and we've had some good video analysis sessions and have a style of play that is getting everybody involved.

"We're working well; I'm very happy. We have our convictions and our principles, and we will look to build our fortune upon this."

After facing Finland, Conte will give his players a day off with their families before they meet up at Milan's Malpensa airport on Wednesday evening for a charter flight to Montpellier -- their base for the duration of the tournament.

Four years ago, Italy were beaten in the final under Conte's predecessor Cesare Prandelli, although they come into this tournament having been eliminated in the group stage of the last World Cup and without two key players -- Claudio Marchisio and Marco Verratti -- due to injury.
