France defender Jeremy Mathieu ruled out of Euro 2016 with calf injury

France defender Jeremy Mathieu has been ruled out of Euro 2016 with a calf injury.

Barcelona centre-back Mathieu, who has won five caps for his country, suffered the injury while playing for his club in the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla last weekend.

The France Football Federation confirmed that he will be replaced in the squad by Lyon player Samuel Umtiti.

France have already lost Real Madrid defender Rafael Varane to injury, with Valencia's Adil Rami called up in his place.

Last week, France coach Didier Deschamps said he was hopeful that Mathieu would recover in time for the Euros.

L'Equipe had reported on Wednesday that the player felt discomfort in his calf after Barcelona's 2-0 extra-time win over Sevilla.
