Romelu Lukaku, FW, Everton and Belgium: #EuroRank: No. 22

Welcome to #EuroRank, a weeklong look at the top 25 players we expect to see at the European Championship. Over 50 ESPN FC experts and writers from across the globe voted, and we're rolling out the results right up to opening day, when France plays Romania on June 10.

Why is Romelu Lukaku in the top 25?

At 23, there should be much to come from Lukaku, but he has already achieved a great deal in his career so far, barring the disappointment of failing to win the approval of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. Away from Stamford Bridge, first on loan at West Brom and Everton and then on a permanent deal to the latter for £28 million, he has become one of the Premier League's most feared strikers. On his day, he is capable of taking apart defences by virtue of his power, strength and a high-cruising speed.

What the experts say about Lukaku:

"He is such a unique No. 9. Normally No. 9s master one aspect: they can hold the ball up, they are strong or they have got pace, they are finishers -- but I think Rom can be everything and I think that is a phenomenal attribute." -- Former Everton manager Roberto Martinez, December 2015.

"I think Rom is maturing as a player. He's getting wiser, he's getting experienced. The more games he's played, the better he's getting. He's stronger, the speed is there and he is getting clinical in his finishing." -- Everton legend Duncan Ferguson, December 2015.

Career highlight:

It would be a May 2013 day recalled for being Sir Alex Ferguson's last match in charge of Manchester United and crazy scoreline of 5-5 with West Brom, but Lukaku scored a perfect hat trick of right foot, left foot and header. And all that after coming on as a half-time substitute.

Stat of the season:

Lukaku became the first Everton player to score in eight successive matches in all competitions since Dave Hickson between Jan-Mar 1954 (via Opta).

What next for Lukaku after Euro 2016?

These days, Everton have healthy finances, but the temptation to double their money for Lukaku may be tested, with a return to Chelsea or a move to Manchester United both mooted.
