Bastian Schweinsteiger OK for semi
Bastian Schweinsteiger's ankle is feeling better and he will be fit to face Italy in Thursday's Euro 2012 semifinal, the German midfielder said Wednesday.
Schweinsteiger had told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag that his right ankle hasn't healed properly after a ligament tear in February and that it's creating problems in the tournament.
Schweinsteiger said he would rest the ankle and fight to play against Italy.
"I am 100 per cent fit and very much looking forward to the game," he said Wednesday, according to Sky Sports. "I have trained twice fully and I feel good."
A key player in the center of Germany's midfield, the Bayern Munich player has been taking breaks from training at the squad's camp outside Gdansk and had a below-par performance in the 4-2 quarterfinal win over Greece.
