LONDON -- England midfielder Frank Lampard will miss the European Championship because of a thigh injury, the Football Association said.
Lampard was hurt during a training session Wednesday.
"It's a huge blow for the team," England manager Roy Hodgson said Thursday, especially following the loss of Gareth Barry on Monday because of a stomach injury. Hodgson also lost backup goalkeeper John Ruddy due to a broken finger.
Barry was replaced by defender Phil Jagielka. Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has taken Lampard's spot on the roster.
England's first match is against France on June 11. It will also plays Ukraine and Sweden in Group D.
