Germany, Poland seal Euro 2016 qualification; Ireland to playoff

Germany qualified for the 2016 European Championships in France and finished top of Group D by overcoming Georgia 2-1 in Munich on Sunday.

Thomas Muller converted a penalty in the 50th minute before Jaba Kankava quickly equalised.

Max Kruse settled the score 11 minutes from full-time to qualify the Germans above Poland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Gibraltar and Georgia in the group.

Republic of Ireland were forced into the playoff after falling to Poland 2-1 in Warsaw.

Jonathan Walters' 16th-minute penalty cancelled out Grzegorz Krychowiak's opener just three minutes prior.

Then, just before the break, in-form striker Robert Lewandowski scored the winner three minutes from time to seal the victory and automatic qualification for the home side.

In the other Group D game, Steven Fletcher bagged a hat trick as Scotland crushed Gibraltar 6-0 at Estadio Algarve.

Albania made history by defeating Armenia 3-0 on Sunday to secure qualification for Euro 2016 and earn themselves a place at their first ever major international tournament.

Albania came into the match knowing that three points would guarantee them a second-placed finish behind Portugal in Group I and that is exactly what they managed to take home with them.

Armenia's Kamo Hovhannisyan converted into his own net inside the first 10 minutes to put the visitors in front and Berat Djimsiti doubled their lead shortly afterwards, before Armando Sadiku made sure of things in the second half.

The result means Denmark, who did not play on Sunday, drop down to third and have to settle for a place in the playoffs.

Elsewhere in Group I, already-qualified Portugal recorded a 2-1 win against Serbia, who had two men sent off.

Fernando Santos' side, without the rested Cristiano Ronaldo, took the lead after just five minutes through Nani's strike, with Zoran Tosic then equalising midway through the second half for Serbia.

But Portugal had the last laugh as Joao Moutinho netted a winner with 12 minutes remaining on the clock, before Serbia saw both Nemanja Matic and Aleksandar Kolarov sent off late on.

Romania also booked their ticket to Euro 2016 thanks to a 3-0 win against Faroe Islands.

A slip-up for Romania could have seen Hungary take second place in Group F, but they managed to pick up the three points with a comfortable victory.

Constantin Budescu got the visitors on their way early on, before adding a second on the stroke of half-time, with Alexandru Maxim then grabbing his side's third.

Northern Ireland managed to hold on to first place in the group as they drew 1-1 in Finland.

Craig Cathcart scored for the visitors, who had already secured their place in France earlier this week, before Paulus Arajuuri levelled for the home side in the 87th minute.

Group F's remaining game saw Greece defeat Hungary 4-3.

Konstantinos Stafylidis opened the scoring for Greece after just five minutes, only for Gergo Lovrecsics to find an equaliser for Hungary soon after.

It was Hungary's turn to take the lead next as Kristian Nemeth edged them ahead, before their opponents equalised through Panagiotis Tachtsidis, with a late Kostas Mitroglou strike soon cancelling out a second from Nemeth.

And Greece then made sure they picked up their first three points of the campaign as Panagiotis Kone headed home a late winner.

Hungary are guaranteed a playoff spot but could still qualify automatically for Euro 2016 as the best third-placed team depending on results elsewhere.
