David De Gea starts for Spain; Wayne Rooney gets England record chance

David De Gea makes his first start since July 29 as he has been named in the Spain XI to take on Macedonia in Euro 2016 qualifying, while Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney gets a chance to break the England goal-scoring record against Switzerland.

De Gea, 24, was linked with Real Madrid all summer and appeared to be on his way to the Primera Division giants on Spain's transfer deadline day of Aug. 31.

Madrid's Costa Rican keeper Keylor Navas was due to move to United as part of the deal but the clubs were unable to complete the move before the deadline, meaning De Gea is under contract with the Red Devils for another season.

The goalkeeper has made 131 appearances for United since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011, but has not played for the Red Devils since July 29, but Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has given him a chance.

De Gea did not feature as Iker Casillas kept the No. 1 spot against Slovakia last week.

Elsewhere, England have named United captain Wayne Rooney in the XI to take on Switzerland.

Rooney needs just one goal to break Sir Bobby Charlton's 49 goal record and the striker is joined in the XI by Chris Smalling, James Milner and Fabian Delph.
