Aaron Ramsey on brink of realising Wales qualifying ambition

Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey is within 90 minutes of fulfilling his ambition of helping his country to the finals of a major tournament.

Chris Coleman's side will become the first Wales side achieve that feat for 58 years if they can beat Israel in Cardiff on Sunday.

Wales beat Cyprus 1-0 in their Euro 2016 qualifier on Thursday to mean they need only three points from their last three matches to book a place in France next summer.

And Arsenal star Ramsey said: "It's always been something I've wanted to try and do, to take Wales to a major championship.

"We know what's on the line for Sunday, so hopefully we will take that opportunity, put on a show and get the three points because it will mean the world to me.

"The fans want a party, but we have to do the job on the pitch first."

Wales moved closer to their goal when Gareth Bale's 82nd-minute header beat the Cypriots, and Ramsey said: "It was a difficult game, and at times we struggled to keep the ball, but we were very solid defensively."

Wales manager Chris Coleman said: "We know what's at stake now and we must handle the situation we find ourselves in."
