Lyon nominated as Euro 2020 venue

The French Football Federation is expected on Thursday to officially endorse the candidature of Lyon to be one of the Europe-wide host cities of Euro 2020.

Lyon's current home is at Stade de Gerland
Lyon are building a new stadium to replace their Stade de Gerland.

France will organise Euro 2016, the last European Championship to be staged in a single country before the idea of UEFA president Michel Platini to hold the 24-team final tournament across 13 European nations becomes reality.

With the city's football club, Olympique Lyonnais, having embarked on the construction of the 58,000-capacity Stade des Lumieres for the upcoming tournament, Lyon is expected to be put forward as France's sole candidate by the FFF's Executive Committee to UEFA ahead of Thursday's deadline for bids.
