Lone furrow plougher against Holland and touched the ball only a handful of times. At least he kept the Dutch defence busy. Cannot be blamed for a lack of service.

Scored a well-taken penalty but could have had a hatful. Mixture of profligacy and unselfishness meant he was denied the hat-trick he should have had. Zoff will have been happy with his running off the ball but perhaps not with his finishing.

The same could be said of his performance against Belgium, which saw him heavily outnumbered and isolated. He was substituted for Delvecchio before the end.

A pattern which followed against Romania. Scored but should have had many more.

Brother of Lazio's Simone who was unlucky to be left out of the squad, 'Super Pippo' has been a revelation for Juve, replacing Fabrizio Ravanelli as the Turin side's arch marksman.

Finished as Serie A top scorer with Atalanta in 1996 before becoming a Bianconero, he may be slightly built, but his pace and skill allow him to wriggle into the most dangerous of positions.

Like Parma's Hernan Crespo in style, he has yet to truly make an impact on the international stage, but this could well be his summer given Christian Vieri's injury-enforced absence.
