Demetri Albertini

Shirt No: 4
Age: 28
Caps: 72
Goals: 3
Club: AC Milan

His tears at the final whistle in Rotterdam may become one of the defining images of the Final, but that would be a disservice to this passionate, hard-working midfielder. Had impressed throughout the game.

Sustained an injury against Holland and was substituted for Pessotto.

Played one of his best ever games in the Italian shirt against Romania. His usual strengths were complemented by some quality long passing.

He had been his usual metronomic self against Turkey, but the Italian midfield was often overrun by the Turks.

Also played to his usual strengths against Belgium and played a large part in the Azzurri's midfield supremacy.

His form dipped with that of his side during the first half of the season, but has improved immensely since the New Year and he should be one of the key members of Zoff's squad this summer.

Mixes an excellent passing ability with strong tackling and can really make a midfield tick when on his game.

Likes to have a crack from long range and his experience with Milan in Serie A and the Champions League makes him one of the most senior members of the Azzurri set-up.
