England under-21s manager Aidy Boothroyd said he is "a little bit worried" about Dominic Solanke's lack of game-time for Liverpool.
A loan move away from Anfield did not materialise for Solanke this summer, and the 20-year-old has not been part of the Liverpool's matchday squad for the first four games of the season.
The striker, who was named player of the tournament at the U20 World Cup in 2017, was drafted in to train with the England senior side on Tuesday.
"I'm really pleased with Dom but I'm also a little bit worried about him because he is not getting the minutes and not getting the games," Boothroyd is quoted as saying in the Telegraph. "I am happy on the pitch picking the best players, but for the good of England and for the good of British football it would be nicer if we had more players playing, certainly better for us and for them.
"Our players have proved they can do it at international level but not as many of them as there should be are getting the opportunity to do that in the Premier League."
Solanke scored one goal in 27 appearances during his first season at Liverpool after leaving Chelsea on a free transfer.
He received his first England cap in November when he came on as a second-half substitute in a friendly with Brazil.
The other England strikers in reserve to Harry Kane are also struggling to receive regular minutes at their respective clubs.
Marcus Rashford has only made one start for Manchester United so far this season, while Arsenal's Danny Welbeck has just two substitute appearances to his name in 2018-19.
Boothroyd's comments come after England manager Gareth Southgate called for Premier League clubs to give more opportunities to young English players.
