Everton's Lucas Digne explains 'never walk alone' tattoo on chest

Everton's Lucas Digne reassured fans of his new club that his tattoo reading "I never walk alone" has nothing to do with Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

Digne, 25, signed with Everton from Barcelona on Aug. 1, but the defender caused a bit of an uproar among supporters when it came to light that he had the words to the Anfield anthem tattooed across his chest.

And in quotes appearing in the Liverpool Echo, Digne said: "There is nothing about football, it is just about my parents.

"When I go for my first day at school when I was three or four years old they gave me a necklace with these words on.

"After when I was 18 years old in Lille I got a tattoo and maybe the Liverpool fans are angry because I said, two times, 'no' to sign for Liverpool."

The former Paris Saint-Germain defender, who failed to break into Barca's regular first team ahead of Jordi Alba, went on to explain how he'd twice turned down approaches from Liverpool to further underscore his devotion to his new club.

He said: "Two times, the first after Lille when I went to Paris and the second time was after Rome. I said two times 'no' because I am a Blue."
