Manchester United's Jose Mourinho praises 'classy' celebration after derby win

Jose Mourinho has appeared to aim a dig at Manchester City by saying his Manchester United players celebrated their derby win in a "classy way."

Mourinho was incensed at what he deemed over-zealous celebrations from City's players and staff after they won 2-1 at Old Trafford in December.

It led to a bust-up in the tunnel with Mourinho later questioning the "education" and "behaviour" of Pep Guardiola's players.

United delayed City's title party by winning 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.

And writing in his programme notes ahead of West Brom's visit to Old Trafford on Sunday, Mourinho was keen to highlight the difference in his team's celebrations.

He wrote: "Winning a derby is always good and especially because we know that not every club can win in the same way that we do.

"We were happy with the result. However, we all behaved in a classy way and we respected our opponents' sadness.

"I am so proud of my players, they showed great character and determination."

United face West Brom and Bournemouth in the Premier League before their FA Cup semifinal with Tottenham at Wembley next weekend.

Mourinho added: "We have a big game next weekend in the FA Cup against Spurs, but our focus has to be on three points in a difficult game against a team fighting for Premier League survival.

"We want to show that this season we are the second best team in the country and to do that we need more points."
