Manchester United's Ander Herrera denies spitting on Manchester City badge

Ander Herrera has denied he intentionally spat on the Manchester City badge as he left the pitch at half-time of Manchester United's 3-2 win at the Etihad on Saturday.

Video footage appears to show Herrera spitting on the large City crest that covers the ground outside the tunnel as the players went in at the break with City two goals up.

A United spokesperson insisted that Herrera's actions were not deliberate.

"Ander has seen the footage of the incident and is mortified at any suggestion that his actions were deliberate. It was entirely accidental and there was no intent whatsoever," the spokesperson said.

United staged a remarkable second-half fightback to win 3-2 -- Herrera created the first goal for Paul Pogba with a wonderful assist -- to deny City the title, for a couple of weeks at least.
