David Moyes hands Joe Hart World Cup lifeline with West Ham start

Joe Hart has been thrown a World Cup lifeline by David Moyes, with the West Ham boss handing the England international the start against Burnley on Saturday.

Hart's spot in Gareth Southgate's squad for this summer's tournament in Russia has been in jeopardy since he lost his place at West Ham in December following some inconsistent performances.

Moyes installed Spanish keeper Adrian as his No. 1, but after seeing him ship eight goals in the last two matches, Hart will get another chance in the West Ham goal.

"Joe Hart will start,'' Moyes confirmed. "Am I happy with the goals we conceded? No I'm not.

"I've said it all along, Joe's been good, and I've got competition in some places so you have to play well. There's big pressure if you don't perform.

"There were a couple of games where I wasn't quite so happy that we didn't do as well as we should have.

"If I thought there were no mistakes or no problems I wouldn't have made any changes.''

Three Lions boss Southgate is sure to monitor Hart's performance closely with the goalkeeper spot a major question mark for England.

Southgate names his squad for the upcoming friendlies away to the Netherlands and at home to Italy next Thursday.
