Premier League clubs hope to play despite snow from 'Beast from the East'

Premier League clubs are confident of fulfilling this weekend's fixtures despite the continued weather warnings of heavy snowfall across the United Kingdom.

Snowy conditions will continue to cause significant disruption across the country due to the weather system emanating from Siberia dubbed "the Beast from the East," although authorities have said the amber weather warning has been lifted.

A yellow "be aware" warning of snow is still in place across some parts of the country over the weekend into Monday.

Authorities said that significant disruption to transport should be expected while services are restored on Friday and urged people to only travel if necessary.

Despite that, Arsenal's match against Manchester City was played as scheduled on Thursday night and the weekend's Premier League fixtures are all still set to go ahead.

Liverpool have urged fans travelling to Anfield for the Saturday evening game against Newcastle United to "take extra care," adding that the game is "planned to go ahead as normal."

A post on Wembley Stadium's official Twitter account stated on that Tottenham Hotspur's match against Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon "is still going ahead."

Arsenal travel south to face Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday before Premier League leaders Manchester City host reigning champions Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium later that day. Manchester United are scheduled to play at Crystal Palace on Monday night.

West Bromwich Albion are set to travel south for their Premier League trip to Watford via the train.

"We've been fortunate that the weather hasn't affected us too much. We are still going to Watford on the train," Albion boss Alan Pardew said.

"It's not an easy weekend for football. Hopefully we can get down there, give a good performance and warm our fans up."

On Friday, Ipswich's Championship home clash with Hull, Barnsley's game against Norwich and Cardiff's trip to Brentford were called off, adding to the postponement of Sheffield United vs Burton a day earlier.

Seventeen matches across League One and League Two have also been postponed. While all four Scottish Cup quarterfinals are still set to take place this weekend, all of the Scottish Professional Football League programme is off including Premiership matches at St Johnstone and Ross County.

Southampton said on their official website on Friday afternoon: "Southampton Football Club is anticipating that tomorrow's Premier League match with Stoke City will proceed as planned.

"The club has been in dialogue with Hampshire Police, Southampton City Council, the Premier League and Stoke about the game, after the heavy snowfall experienced in the region.

"Following continued consultation throughout the day, the club and authorities expect the game to go ahead at its scheduled 3pm GMT kick-off time. Should there be a need for any further updates, we will inform supporters as soon as possible."
