Eliaquim Mangala starts for Man City vs. West Ham; Kompany rested

Pep Guardiola has made four changes to his Manchester City side for the visit of West Ham United, bringing back Leroy Sane after illness and David Silva after a rest.

Of the changes from the team that beat Southampton on Wednesday, perhaps the biggest surprise is the return of defender Eliaquim Mangala, who will make his first Premier League start for the club since May 2016, with captain Vincent Kompany dropping to the bench.

Kompany and Fernandinho, who is not included in the starting XI for the first time in the league this season, are a booking away from a suspension ahead of next weekend's trip to nearest rivals Manchester United.

Danilo returns to the lineup and could play in the holding midfield role or switch to left-back with Fabian Delph taking up that position.

West Ham United are captained by Pablo Zabaleta, who makes his first return to the Etihad Stadium since leaving in the summer after nine years at the club.

Goalkeeper Joe Hart is ineligible to face his parent club and is replaced by Adrian while Marko Arnautovic drops to the bench in what looks like a defensive setup from David Moyes, who is still looking for his first win as Hammers boss.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Walker, Otamendi, Mangala, Danilo, Delph, De Bruyne, D. Silva, Sterling, Sane, Aguero.

Manchester City substitutes: Bravo, Yaya Toure, Gundogan, Fernandinho, B. Silva, Jesus, Kompany.

West Ham XI: Adrian, Zabaleta, Rice, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Fernandes, Kouyate, Obiang, Masuaku, Lanzini, Antonio.

West Ham substitutes: Trott, Johnson, Quina, Arnautovic, Ayew, Martinez, Sakho.
