Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants '100 percent' preseason improvement

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool's preseason work will lay strong foundations for the campaign ahead.

Players who have not had international commitments over the summer will report to Melwood for training later this week to begin the preparations for the 2017-18 campaign.

Following two local friendlies, the Merseyside club will take part in the Premier League Asia Trophy in Hong Kong and then move on to Germany for three warm-up matches. They will conclude their preseason schedule against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin.

"Apart from the games during the season, it's the most important thing and it has a big influence on the games. You create a base for the whole year," the Liverpool manager told the club's official website. "This game is a players' game and the players' game means they need to know what the other guy is thinking.

"You learn all of this in the preseason. Of course you learn in the season -- you fine-tune -- but the better the basis you can create, the better the season will be, 100 percent.

"I really love the sessions. There should be a 100 percent difference between the first day of preseason and the last day. We really want to see big, big progress."

Klopp has said he will use the time over the summer to implement new systems and improve Liverpool's tactical flexibility.

But while he feels it is a period to improve performances on the pitch, he also believes the harmony throughout the squad can be further enhanced as a result of the time spent together.

"That's why you go to training camps, usually, because they are then all together 24 hours [a day]; having breakfast, lunch and dinner together, spare time together and all that stuff," he added.

"It's very important. You can ask each new player who came in last year how he felt on his first day and the day after the camp or day after preseason, that's a very decisive period.

"The closer you can get in this period, the better it is."
