Chelsea, Spurs players lead Premier League Player of Season shortlist

Chelsea and Tottenham players dominate the nominees for the Premier League Player of the Season, while Antonio Conte and Mauricio Pochettino are both contenders for the Manager of the Season award.

Six of the eight nominees are from the top two, with N'Golo Kante, Eden Hazard and Cesar Azpilicueta representing the champions and Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Jan Vertonghen on the shortlist for Spurs.

Everton's Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal complete the set, with Kante -- who has already been named PFA Player of the Year and won the Football Writers' Association award -- the favourite again.

Chelsea's Conte and Spurs' Pochettino are joined by Sean Dyche of Burnley, West Bromwich Albion's Tony Pulis and Paul Clement of Swansea on the managers' shortlist.

The signing of Kante and the return to form of 2015 Player of the Year Hazard have been key to Chelsea's title success, while Azpilicueta has not missed a minute of top-flight football and has played in a number of positions.

Alli, who retained the PFA Young Player of the Year award, has hit new heights this season, scoring 17 league goals, while Kane, on 22, remains in the running for a second consecutive Golden Boot, despite missing more than 10 weeks with two ankle injuries.

Vertonghen has been among the most consistent defenders in the league, while Lukaku is the division's top scorer with 24 goals and Sanchez, on 21, has been a shining light for Arsenal in a disappointing campaign.

Conte's tactical shift to three centre-backs in September influenced many other managers and was instrumental in winning the title in his first season in English football. He is the favourite for the award ahead of Pochettino, who has guided Spurs to a highest-ever Premier League finish of second and a record points haul, despite having the sixth highest wage bill in the division.

Dyche and Pulis have both secured comfortable mid-table finishes against the odds, while Clement, Swansea's third manager of the season, led them to safety after inheriting a team rock bottom of the league in January.
