Arsenal strengthen top-four hopes, Man City go third, Swansea win

Olivier Giroud scored twice as Arsenal bolstered their hopes of Champions League qualification with a 4-1 victory at Stoke.

The visitors found the breakthrough just before the break through Giroud, who converted Hector Bellerin's cross, with Mesut Ozil doubling their lead shortly after the restart, latching onto Alexis Sanchez's through ball before finishing past Jack Butland.

Stoke pulled one back in the 67th minute through Peter Crouch, who appeared to turn Marko Arnautovic's cross in with his hand, but despite seemingly having just picked up an injury, Sanchez made sure of the result nine minutes later with a low strike into the bottom corner.

Sanchez was taken off by Arsene Wenger after his goal, with there still time left for Giroud to add a fourth late on after turning in Aaron Ramsey's delivery.

Arsenal now sit one point behind fourth-placed Liverpool in the Premier League table, with Jurgen Klopp's side facing West Ham on Sunday.

Riyad Mahrez had a late penalty disallowed, after he slipped and touched the ball twice, as Manchester City secured a 2-1 victory against Leicester at the Etihad Stadium to move up to third.

David Silva opened the scoring for City on the half-hour mark with a close-range finish, before Gabriel Jesus added a second a few minutes later from the penalty spot.

Shinji Okazaki pulled one back for Leicester just before the break with an impressive volley, but the visitors were unable to find an equaliser in the second half, with Mahrez netting from the spot in the 77th minute, only to see the goal disallowed after he kicked the ball against his other foot before it went in.

Swansea took a huge step towards beating the drop after moving four points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over already-doomed Sunderland.

Swansea took the lead inside nine minutes at the Stadium of Light when Fernando Llorente rose inside the box to meet Gylfi Sigurdsson's free kick and head home.

And Kyle Naughton doubled the visitors' advantage deep into first-half stoppage time with a fine hit from the edge of the box that flew into the top corner of the net.

Swansea's win means defeat for Hull at Crystal Palace on Sunday would now see the Tigers become the third and final team to be relegated.

Josh King scored a late winner as Bournemouth beat Burnley 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium to move into the top half of the table.

Junior Stanislas scored Bournemouth's opener in the 26th minute with a well-taken finish into the bottom corner, before Sam Vokes levelled for Burnley with a header seven minutes from time.

However, King had the final say just two minutes later, slotting past Tom Heaton after being found in the box by Ryan Fraser.

Southampton defeated already-relegated Middlesbrough 2-1 at the Riverside Stadium.

Southampton broke the deadlock just before the break through Jay Rodriguez, who connected with Shane Long's cross to fire home, with Nathan Redmond making it two on the hour-mark with a finish into the top corner.

It could have been three for Southampton just a few minutes later but Long was unable to convert from the penalty spot, with his effort clipping the bar and going over, before Patrick Bamford scored with a header to pull one back for the hosts.
