Premier League clubs in line for shirt sleeve sponsorship for first time

Up to 10 Premier League clubs could soon sport sponsorship on their shirt sleeves, according to Sporting Group International's CEO Adrian Wright.

The Daily Mirror reports advertising space for the 2017-18 season on the right shirt sleeve -- as the Premier League logo will feature on the left -- could be worth up to £10 million ($12.4m) a season, as it is valued at around 20 percent of the main shirt sponsorship deal.

Wright said: "It's the first time in EPL history the sleeve can be sold and hopefully it will be the first time that one brand has been seen on multiple shirts from potentially eight-10 clubs."

In February 2015, Chelsea announced The Yokohama Rubber Company Ltd as their shirt sponsor in a five-year deal reportedly worth £40m, second only in the Premier League to Manchester United's deal with United States car manufacturer Chevrolet, which is worth a reported £47m per season.

In March 2016, a study said that United's shirt sponsorship was the most lucrative in Europe this season -- worth around double of Barcelona's -- and helped the Premier League bring in £260m in total.
