Average cost of Premier League ticket is £31 after away price cap introduced

The average price of a Premier League match ticket is now £31, new data has shown.

The Premier League has published a list of ticket prices at all 20 of the division's clubs, with research research revealing that more than half of those attending matches pay £30 or less for a ticket.

It comes after an agreement to cap the price of away tickets in the Premier League at £30.

The findings showed that 25 percent of all tickets sold in the Premier League cost £20 or less. The biggest proportion of tickets, 49 percent, cost between £20 and £40, with 22 percent coming in at between £40 and £60 and four percent costing £60 or more.

The number of people holding season tickets has increased this season, with a three percent rise taking it to 71 percent of fans at Premier League matches.

Some 500,000 people now have season tickets, with around one-third of that total concessionary for either pensioners or children.

Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore said the average price of attending a match was "far less than many would have you believe."

He added: "The fact that more than 56 percent of fans in stadiums are attending Premier League football for £30 or less per game, and 25 percent for less than £20, shows how many people are getting value.

"These figures will go a long way to busting some of the myths perpetrated about the cost of attending Premier League matches and hopefully encourage even more people to attend a live match."

Kevin Miles, the chief executive of the Football Supporters' Federation, said: "The massive increase in broadcasting revenues has injected so much money that it has been possible for clubs to cap prices for away tickets and still enjoy a huge rise in revenues."
