Steven Gerrard 'always so welcome' at Liverpool after Instagram alert - Klopp

LIVERPOOL, England -- Jurgen Klopp said former captain Steven Gerrard is "always so welcome" at Liverpool after the midfielder's online post led to rumours he was leaving the LA Galaxy.

Gerrard posted a photo on his Instagram page on Saturday thanking the city of Los Angeles and Galaxy supporters, which led multiple outlets to incorrectly report that his time in MLS would be coming to an end.

The 36-year-old, who left Liverpool in the summer of 2015, returned to Merseyside last year to train with the Reds during the MLS offseason, and he visited again during the international break last month.

Speaking at a news conference following his side's 2-1 victory over West Brom, Klopp was adamant that there would always be a place for Gerrard at Liverpool.

"Steven Gerrard is always so welcome at Liverpool FC," Klopp said. You cannot imagine how welcome -- absolutely no problem.

"Everything what we have already, or will, talk to each other [about] stays in this talk and stays in this situation. That's how I know Stevie and that's how I am.

"But nobody should be worried about that we have no space for Steven Gerrard. Everything will be fine, 100 percent."

Living in Los Angeles and playing for the great Galaxy supporters has been a privilege. You have made this place feel like home to me. This city and this club will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you #8

Gerrard's Instagram post turned out to be part of a wider Galaxy effort forĀ Fan Appreciation Night, not a comment on anyone's contract.

LA's vice president of marketing Brendan Hannan clarified the situation by posting on Twitter that "All #LAGalaxy players are posting thank you notes to supporters ahead of Fan Appreciation night, including [Gyasi] Zardes, Gerrard, [Brian] Rowe and AJ [DeLaGarza]."

Gerrard's contract is set to expire after this season, but a source close to the Galaxy told ESPN FC that the MLS club has no announcement planned regarding his future.

The Galaxy, who have secred an MLS playoff spot, conclude the regular season on Sunday against FC Dallas.

Information from ESPN FC's Jeff Carlisle was used in this report.
