Jesse Lingard: Players discussed Liverpool-United on England duty

Jesse Lingard has admitted that Manchester United and Liverpool players have been speaking, on England duty, about coming up against each other -- and an "intense" match awaits.

Liverpool host United in the Premier League on Monday as the clubs return to action following the international break. The England squad included United's Lingard, Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford and Chris Smalling -- plus Liverpool's Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge.

Lingard told MUTV: "Of course we spoke about it and both sets of players know that it'll be an intense game.

"I played there [at Anfield in January] last season and it was a massive feeling to be part of the celebrations for Wayne's winning goal [in a 1-0 victory]."

Liverpool are in form, having won five games in a row in all competitions, while scoring 16 goals in that period. That run included an impressive 4-1 home win against Leicester and a 2-1 victory away against Chelsea.

Lingard said: "Liverpool have been in good form so far and have scored a lot of goals, which is something we need to be wary of. It'll be tough because they've got a lot talent in their group, but we know we've got talent in our own ranks.

"We'll be pushing to win the game as it's always good to get one over your rivals."
