Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hails 'strong' display

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hailed his players after they achieved a "very important" result by thrashing Leicester 4-1 at Old Trafford.

United, who had been beaten in their previous two Premier League games against Manchester City and Watford, never looked back from the moment Chris Smalling opened the scoring after 22 minutes.

Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba's first United goal made it 4-0 by the break, Mourinho told United's official website: "It was important to win because we had come from two defeats in the Premier League. It was very important not even to draw the match.

"We know they are a very dangerous team, but we started well. We were very strong, and we felt their fragility when they conceded the second goal and we went for more in that moment and played really well.

"In the second half it was difficult to keep that intensity, and [Leicester manager Claudio] Ranieri did well. He played to control the game and not to lose by more.

"It was then about them to control the game and us to control the result. It was three points and a great result for us."
