West Brom talent scout rejects Manchester United move - sources

Manchester United are set to miss out on bringing West Bromwich Albion's head of academy recruitment, Steve Hopcroft, to Old Trafford, sources close to both clubs have told ESPN FC.

As reported by ESPN FC earlier this month, United had made an approach for the highly rated Hopcroft as they continue a restructuring of their youth set-up.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis said last week United had made an offer for Hopcroft's services and he hoped the scout would resist their overtures.

Hopcroft is regarded as one of the country's top talent spotters, having helped develop a number of young players to come through the ranks and play in the Premier League for the Baggies including Saido Berahino, Isaiah Brown, Jerome Sinclair and Jonathan Leko.

West Brom were reluctant to lose Hopcroft and have made a counter offer to try and persuade him to stay at the Hawthorns.

Sources close to both clubs have told ESPN FC that Hopcroft has now informed both clubs he plans to stay put and continue his work in West Brom's academy.
