Zlatan Ibrahimovic enjoying Jose Mourinho's direct style at Man United

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has praised manager Jose Mourinho for being direct with players, rather than going behind their backs, as the pair prepare for the Manchester derby.

Ibrahimovic, 34, fell out with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola when the pair worked together at Barcelona, with the Swede frustrated by the coach's lack of communication.

He wrote in his autobiography I Am Zlatan: "I can deal with that, if the manager is man enough to say: 'You're not good enough, Zlatan. You haven't made the grade.' Guardiola didn't say a word, not a peep, and now I'd had enough."

But, speaking to BBC Sport in the build-up to Saturday's derby against City, Ibrahimovic explained that he has not encountered any such problems with Mourinho.

"He [Mourinho] is direct with everyone," Ibrahimovic said. "He is not a coach that goes behind you and tells you behind your back. He will tell you if you are not good enough that you are not good enough.

"And I prefer that it is like that, instead of having someone who doesn't say anything to you. Your situation is so-and-so but you think it is good because you don't hear anything."

Ibrahimovic believes him and Mourinho work well together because they share a lifelong desire to win.

He said: "I like to win. I'll do everything to win. He thinks the same thing. And he won. And I won. We won when we were young -- and we will win when we are a little bit older. Not old, a little bit older."

Discussing what makes Mourinho special, Ibrahimovic added: "In a short time, he is very successful. That is something that not every coach has. You have coaches that build things up and the clubs have a lot of patience with them but, this coach, he makes big success in a short time."
