Southampton's Nathan Redmond similar to Thierry Henry - Puel

New Southampton manager Claude Puel has said he believes Nathan Redmond has a number of similarities to former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry.

Redmond, 22, played as a winger at previous club Norwich but is expected to start the Saints' opening game at home to Watford on Saturday as a striker.

Henry, who worked with Puel during his time at Monaco earlier in his career, was moved from out wide to a central role by Arsene Wenger after joining the Gunners from Juventus and went on to score 228 goals in two spells for the club.

Puel said: "It is two men with the same possibilities -- quick and a good technical ability.

"I see similarities between the two with this ability to shoot with the right foot and to curl the ball.

"He [Redmond] has this particularly, and he feels the play and can make a combination with his partner, can dribble and can make the difference."

He said former Birmingham star Redmond "is a very good player, and [it is] a very good surprise to find this player at this level."

"I can see a player with all these qualities, and all these qualities in front of the goal also, so it's for me a pity to leave him out wide."
