Hull City move closer to takeover after Chinese consortium visit - source

Hull City's owners have moved a step closer to selling the club after representatives of a Chinese consortium visited the training facilities, a source has told ESPN FC.

The Hull Daily Mail reported that Dai Yongge and Hawken Xiu Li tabled a bid for the Tigers last week, and that representatives of their consortium were shown around the club's Cottingham training base on Monday.

The trip took place after the offer was made, although the club has declined to comment and a takeover has yet to be finalised.

Three weeks ago, the club issued a statement that said discussions about a sale had been put on the back burner by owners the Allam family until after the summer transfer window.

Two days after that statement, boss Steve Bruce departed. Caretaker manager Mike Phelan is expected to take charge this weekend, with no new additions having arrived since.

Mohamed Diame has been sold to Newcastle and a succession of injuries means Phelan will be unable to fill his bench with senior players when the new Premier League season kicks off at home to champions Leicester on Saturday.

Protests against their handling of affairs will take place at the KCOM Stadium this weekend.

Hull have been for sale since the owners failed in an attempt to change the club's name to Hull Tigers in 2014.

An initial application to change the name was rejected by a Football Association committee before a second application also failed to gain support.

Information from the Press Association was used in this report.
