Manchester United vs. Man City in preseason has 'added spice' - Carrick

Manchester United's preseason meeting with Manchester City has "added spice" to the team's training camp, according to midfielder Michael Carrick.

The two Manchester clubs will play each other on July 25 in the International Champions Cup in Beijing, allowing managers Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola to renew their rivalry before the start of the Premier League season.

And Carrick, who signed a one-year contract extension last month, believes that the preseason derby has brought something extra to United's preparations.

"I'm sure there will be a little bit of added spice for a preseason friendly and it'll be great for the fans out there to witness," Carrick told the official Manchester United website.

"The support we get out there is incredible so the atmosphere will go up a notch I'm sure.

"Preseason is an important time for the team and for the players, making sure that you get to that level that you need to be at for the start of the season."

Three days prior to the Manchester derby, United will take on German side Borussia Dortmund, who sold midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Old Trafford club last week.

And Carrick is also looking forward to testing himself against Thomas Tuchel's side.

"They're a terrific team who did well in last season's Bundesliga and I'm sure it'll be a good game for us," Carrick said. "Playing against them will allow us, to a certain extent, judge where we're at.

"It's difficult to predict exactly what the games will be like because a lot will depend on which players are on display. But we know the games will be tough as we're talking about two great teams here. I'm sure they will be great games to watch."
