Nigel Pearson: My achievements at Leicester City speak for themselves

Former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has said he is "aware of his contribution" to the club's stunning Premier League title success.

Pearson, now the boss of Championship side Derby County, made the comments as he spoke to the media in his formal introduction by the club.

He guided Leicester to promotion from the second tier before leading them to Premier League safety in the 2014-15 season, but lost his job that summer.

He said: "The Leicester story is a very good one. I'm aware of my contribution and what I have done at Leicester.

"It's a fantastic story and I'm genuinely delighted for the players and my ex-colleagues and staff. It's unbelievable. It's right to recognise that.

"Claudio Ranieri managed with an awful lot of skill. Those are my observations from afar, but that's the end of the story.

"I draw a line under that and move on. I had a lot of success at Leicester City. My achievements there speak for themselves."

Pearson said he had rejected "dozens and dozens of opportunities" to talk about Leicester as they closed in on the title. He explained that doing so was "not my scene."

But he added that he wanted to replicate the team spirit that played such a key part in Leicester's triumph in his new job at Derby.

"Their togetherness and spirit shines out like a beacon," he said. "You don't get that overnight.

"I build things, and one of things you need is enough short-term success to allow you to build things. Things don't happen overnight.

"Now I've got a new job, a big challenge, and here there is an emphasis on developing the whole of the football club.

"Ultimately, though, the aim is promotion. We have to get in the Premier League first but of course we would like to follow the path of Leicester's recent success."
