Paul Pogba's agent Mino Raiola blames Sir Alex Ferguson for Man United exit

Mino Raiola has hit back at Sir Alex Ferguson for blaming him for Paul Pogba's departure from Manchester United, saying that the Scot still does not understand his client and never believed in his talents at Old Trafford.

Pogba, 22, left United to join Juventus when his contract expired in 2012 when Ferguson had expected the midfielder to agree a new one-year deal.

Ferguson wrote in his new book "Leading" that Pogba's agent was responsible for the move, but Raiola has responded by saying he was merely doing his job and claiming it would have benefited him more if Pogba had stayed at Old Trafford.

Ferguson never selected Pogba in United's first-team starting XI, and the former Premier League champions received just £800,000 in compensation for a player who has since starred for France and Juventus and is now valued at around £70 million.

Raiola argued Ferguson, who admitted he dislikes the agent, is wrong in his assessment of Pogba as he launched a defence of his actions.

"Seeing what he's written in his book, Ferguson has confirmed that he still does not know who Pogba is," Raiola told reporters. "I don't see anything bad about me in what he said. In fact, coming from him it's a compliment.

"Yes, if Mr Ferguson doesn't like me, it's a compliment because it means that I'm doing my job well. I need to do the best I can for my clients, not for coaches or managers.

"If I'd not taken my interests seriously, I would have tried to convince Paul to stay in Manchester to protect my relationship with United in view of future deals.

"But I'm only interested in what's good for Paul. Maybe Ferguson only likes those who do what he asks. Anyway, from the many talks we had in the past, it didn't seem to me like he really liked Pogba.

"I don't have a bad memory of Ferguson. He was a great manager, but even the greatest managers, in my opinion, can make mistakes. I'll keep the truth to myself.

"One day, if he likes, Paul will reveal all. It's a fact, though, that Ferguson didn't believe in the player while others did, starting with Juve."

In his book, Ferguson wrote: "There are one or two football agents I simply do not like. And Mino Raiola, Paul Pogba's agent, is one of them.

"I distrusted him from the moment I met him. He became Zlatan Ibrahimovic's agent while he was playing for Ajax, and eventually he would end up representing Pogba, who was only 18 years old at the time.

"We had Paul under a three-year contract, and it had a one-year renewal option which we were eager to sign. But Raiola suddenly appeared on the scene and our first meeting was a fiasco.

"He and I were like oil and water. From then on, our goose was cooked because Raiola had been able to ingratiate himself with Paul and his family and the player signed with Juventus."
