MANCHESTER -- Football Association chief executive Martin Glenn has given his backing to Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro, by saying her duty is to the players rather than manager Jose Mourinho.
The medic was criticised by Mourinho for running on to the pitch to attend to Eden Hazard, and then reducing Chelsea to nine men when the Belgian had to go off for treatment, in their 2-2 draw with Swansea.
Mourinho has not permitted Carneiro or physio Jon Fearn to take their places on the Chelsea bench since then and the FA was criticised by medical barrister Mary O'Rourke for "staying silent" about the issue.
But, speaking at the Soccerex Convention in Manchester, Glenn said: "We work to a FIFA mandate on medical support. The duty of the doctor is to the player, not the employer. It is the Hippocratic oath.
"It is an issue for Chelsea to sort out but I don't believe they are playing a dangerous game."
Carneiro is reportedly planning to take legal action against Chelsea.
