The Romania international was not included on the club's "retained list" of players as submitted to the Premier League at the end of the 2013-14 season.

Pantilimon, 27, was among the biggest surprises named among a group of players available for release that also included Lescott, 31, and Barry, 33.

It remains to be seen whether Pantilimon, who is out of contract this summer, is offered new terms or looks to move on to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

Pantilimon has largely been restricted to domestic cup appearances since joining City from Timisoara three years ago.

He did briefly take over from Joe Hart as first choice last autumn following a loss of form by the England number one, but he made just seven Premier League appearances.

The highlight of his time at City was playing in the Capital One Cup final win over Sunderland in March.

The presence of defender Lescott and midfielder Barry, who has spent the past year on loan at Everton, on the same list comes as no surprise as their contracts also wind down.

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak confirmed they would be leaving as he thanked both players for their services in an interview earlier this week.

City's list also confirmed that two players in defender Dedryck Boyata and third-choice goalkeeper Richard Wright have been offered new deals.

Belgian Boyata, 23, a graduate from the club's Academy, and former England international Wright, 36, both fulfil homegrown criteria.
