Wenger left to rue Arsenal title failure

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he was left with "mixed feelings" after watching the Gunners secure a 17th successive season in the Champions League but fail to maintain a title push.

Everton's 3-2 home defeat to Manchester City on Saturday secured another top four finish for Arsenal, but Wenger said he remained frustrated that his side's challenge for Premier League glory had faded.

"There are mixed feelings because we were 128 days top of the league and mixed feelings because you feel at the most important period of the season, in March and April, we didn't have our players available," he told Arsenal Player, reflecting on injuries to the likes of Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott.

"As well [I feel] pride because we are the only team now in the last 18 seasons who has finished in the top four. Nobody else did it. If you look across Europe, not many others did it. That's a sign of consistency, commitment and quality of work."

Meanwhile, defender Per Metesacker has said he believes Arsenal have to play their final Premier League game of the season at Norwich with full intensity, even though their focus has now switched to the FA Cup final against Hull later this month.

Ahead of a game that could be crucial to the Canaries, who are deep in relegation trouble and need Sunderland to lose at home on Wednesday to have any chance of escaping, the Germany international said: "When you switch off it's hard to switch on again -- so we want to keep the focus and intensity high."
