Tottenham deny Frank de Boer claim

Tottenham Hotspur have denied making an approach for a new coach, after Frank de Boer claimed to have been contacted by the Premier League club.

Brassell: What next for Frank de Boer?

Ajax boss De Boer said in an interview with national broadcaster NOS on Tuesday that Marc Overmars -- football director of the Amsterdam club -- had told him of Tottenham's enquiry.

The Dutchman recently led Ajax to a fourth successive Eredivisie title and his impressive work at the club has led to speculation he could be targeted by a number of top European sides.

Tottenham have been mentioned as potential suitors, as uncertainty continues over current coach Tim Sherwood's future.

However, Spurs, who are sixth in the Premier League table, insisted on Wednesday that no contact has been made with De Boer or any other coach.

A club statement read: "Reports that we have made approaches to other clubs regarding coaching staff are wholly inaccurate. We have NOT contacted any club regarding coaching appointments.

"We regret that a statement such as this is necessary. However, we feel it is important to clarify matters."
