Pepe Mel uncertain over future

Pepe Mel admits he does not know whether he will still be in charge at West Brom next season -- even if he keeps them in the Premier League.

Pepe Mel remains hopeful over West Brom's survival chances.

The Baggies boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 win at fellow strugglers Norwich, to bring a positive end to a week which had been dominated by reports of a dressing-room bust-up after the 3-3 draw against Cardiff.

Former Real Betis coach Mel was appointed as successor to Steve Clarke in January on an 18-month deal.

However, the 51-year-old former Rayo Vallecano and Betis boss admits he cannot think past the remaining matches of what has been a testing campaign for The Hawthorns club.

“I don't know where I am going to be next season,” Mel said when asked if goalscorer Morgan Amalfitano, on loan from Marseille, was a player he would like to keep hold of.

“This is a different country, a different language, another way of doing things, but I said at the time [of my appointment] I would make sure that I met the objective [of staying up] and that is what is taking place.

“This is a league in which anyone can take points of anyone -- you can take points off Chelsea and you can take points off Liverpool -- which is why it is the most competitive league in the world.”
