Moyes' desperate search for a win

Pellegrini will go to Anfield to win

Manuel Pellegrini has vowed Manchester City will aim to win Sunday's potential title-decider at Anfield, even though a draw could position them to become champions.

Manuel Pellegrini has seen his Manchester City side exit two competitions in successive games.
Manuel Pellegrini will hope to take a giant stride to the title with victory at Liverpool on Sunday.

City go to Liverpool four points behind their hosts but with two games in hand and, while both clubs know their destiny is in their own hands, that will change for Brendan Rodgers' side if Pellegrini's team avoid defeat. But the Chilean is adamant there is no way he will send his side out to play for a point.

He told British national newspapers: "Maybe I am wrong but I always think in the same way as a manager -- if you play to draw, you will lose. So we are going to play to win. Of course, after the game, if we couldn't win the game and we draw it's a good result, but we are not going to play against Liverpool thinking we must draw. We don't know to play in that way."

City, who have struck 84 times, are the second highest scorers in the Premier League behind Liverpool, whose 2-1 win over West Ham took their tally to 90. And Pellegrini is pleased that Rodgers shares his attacking ethos and believes it benefits the game that both sides play the right way.

He added: "I am very happy for football: for attractive football, creative football. That's why I think Liverpool have a lot of merits in the year they are having so far, because they are an attractive team and they always score.

"Maybe I also am wrong, but I prefer important teams, big teams, than those that just want to win 1-0 and give all the possession of the ball to the other team, score one goal and always defend during 90 minutes."
