Szczesny: We must focus on FA Cup

Wojciech Szczesny says Arsenal need to forget about their 3-0 defeat to Everton and respond instantly by advancing past Wigan into the FA Cup final.

The Gunners suffered a huge blow to their hopes of securing a top-four finish after being outplayed by Roberto Martinez’s men at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The victory for Everton moves them to within a point of fourth-placed Arsenal, while the Toffees also have a game in hand.

But while the result was a setback for the Gunners, Szczesny believes they have no time to dwell on the defeat and must now turn their attention to Saturday’s FA Cup semifinal with the Latics.

"We've got plenty to play for still. We've got the FA Cup now, so we're going to have to switch on and focus very quickly and forget about this," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "I hope we can kick on from now and start a good run."

Arsenal’s last trophy came back in 2005, and Szczesny feels winning the FA Cup this season is the perfect opportunity to give something back to the club’s supporters.

"It's huge obviously,” Szczesny said of the Wigan clash. “We know it's the only trophy we can win and it will be a massive boost for the club and the fans."

And the goalkeeper also believes the Gunners can see off Everton to claim fourth spot, having had the experience of being in a similar position in seasons gone by.

"Yes we've managed to do it every single time so far, so although we haven't been at our very best recently, we believe we can do it yes," he said.
