Jose Enrique is set to miss the rest of Liverpool's season with a knee injury that is continuing to baffle the club's medical staff.

The Spanish left-back was expected to be absent for 10 weeks after having surgery to sort out the problem on Nov. 21.

That should have meant he made his comeback at the end of January, but he is still not fit and has no return date.

The 28-year-old flew to the United States to see a specialist in February, and Liverpool are continuing to assess the problem.

Manager Brendan Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo: "There is nothing new on Jose, we're still waiting.

"We're just trying to get to the bottom of the problem. It's going to be difficult for him to play again this season."

Enrique, signed for Liverpool by Kenny Dalglish from Newcastle for five million pounds in August 2011, has been troubled by the injury all season, but managed to play through the opening weeks of the campaign.

He has played just 29 minutes for the club since Oct. 5, and has not figured at all since the 4-0 Premier League win over Fulham on Nov. 9.
