Joleon Lescott wants perfect City finish

Joleon Lescott is hoping to end his Manchester City career as a Treble winner.

Lescott, 31, is set to leave the Etihad Stadium in the summer when his contract expires, but wants Sunday’s Capital One Cup final against Sunderland to bring him the first of three medals this season.

City are in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup, where they face Wigan, and are third in the Premier League, and the England international, who is likely to be on the bench at Wembley this weekend, is eyeing glory in all competitions.

He told the Daily Telegraph: “We are going to be at Wembley for the Capital One Cup final and it’s going to be a great occasion. I want to be part of it. That was something I thought about when deciding to stay in January and what we could achieve.

“And if I can leave having won two league titles and a domestic Treble this season, then that would be perfect.

“I’ve known for a while that the club were not going to renew my contract, but not one performance has been altered by what has been going on with the contract. I just go out there and give 100 percent.

"I could have gone in January, but I started the campaign and felt I’ve played enough games in competitions to warrant my place in the squad and some games in the team.”

Lescott joined City for 22 million pounds in 2009 and, having lost his place to Matija Nastasic and then Martin Demichelis, considered leaving the club in January.

West Ham expressed an interested in the former Everton centre-back, while he was also linked with a move to Besiktas.

Lescott added: “There’s been a lot of speculation, but the circumstances for me to leave weren’t right. So I thought I’d get my head down and then see what happens at the end of the season, but I haven’t had contact with anyone.”

Lescott said he will consider a move abroad, adding: “I’m not going to say yes or no to where I will be going in the summer or if I will stay in the Premier League. I will weigh up the best options for me and my family and see what happens. If it’s the right move for me, I’ll go abroad.

“It’s nice to think I might be wanted in the summer on a free, but it’s not an incentive for me to play well, to be in the shop window or anything like that now.”
