Lowery to be England mascot - report

Wenger: Tomas Rosicky will stay on

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed his midfielder Tomas Rosicky has agreed a new contract to extend his stay at the club, with an announcement of the deal for the 33-year-old imminent.

Cross: Arsenal bounce back

Wenger stated his belief in early January that Czech Republic star Rosicky would remain beyond the end of his current Arsenal deal, which is due to expire next summer and yet there appeared to be no developments in contract negotiations since.

The scout believes Mikkel Diskerud's game is very similar to that of Arsenal's Tomas Rosicky.
Tomas Rosicky will extend his stay at Arsenal after is current deal expires next summer, Arsene Wenger says.

Now Wenger has claimed Rosicky has verbally agreed to stay with Arsenal, with the Gunners boss convinced that getting his signature on a new contract is a formality.

"Tomas Rosicky will stay," Wenger told reporters. "We have an agreement with him and it will come out soon. I am absolutely adamant he has to stay at the club."

Wenger went on to praise Rosicky's contribution to the Arsenal cause since his arrival at the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2006, with his goal in last Saturday's 4-1 win against Sunderland one of his finest in a Gunners shirt.

"He is maybe one of the players who plays the game of give and move, is a great accelerator of the game," added Wenger. "When the ball comes to him, [he has a] second gear now and that is something I admire in him.

"He makes always things happen, not with individual dribbling but with individual acceleration of his passing and of his runs.

"When he arrived here he was less a tactical player and more the 'Mozart from Prague' and he was purely creative, offensive player. Today he is a real organiser on the pitch as well. I like to have him in the team because he gives a real structure to our team."

Meanwhile, Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has hailed Rosicky as one of the best midfielders in the world 'when it comes to passing and movement', as he suggested the Gunners face a crucial few weeks in their hopes of landing silverware this season.

"We have some big games coming up, we [need to] continue with the same work ethic off the ball, try to win it back straight away and press them," he told the Arsenal website.

"You see the best teams in the world like Barcelona and Bayern Munich do that and we have to try to do that as well, because when we get in their half we have the players to hurt them."
