Henderson set for contract talks

Liverpool are set to open talks with midfielder Jordan Henderson at the end of this season over a contract extension.

Henderson, a 16 million pound signing from Sunderland in 2011, has established himself as a regular at Anfield after a difficult start to his career on Merseyside.

And the club want to reward the 23-year-old’s form by extending a contract that currently runs until the summer of 2016, sources told ESPN FC.

Henderson is one of only two players to have started every Premier League game for Liverpool this season -- goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is the other.

Henderson has been in impressive form for Liverpool this season.

And his performances have made him a contender to go to this summer’s World Cup, with England assistant manager Ray Lewington watching an impressive display from the midfielder as Liverpool beat neighbours Everton 4-0 in the Premier League on Jan. 28.

Henderson’s form has been praised by his club manager Brendan Rodgers, who described him last Friday as “an outstanding talent”.

Rodgers said: “I think he [Ray Lewington] was looking at Jordan and probably thinking that he’s a player that is improving every time he sees him.

“He showed real discipline in the game and he looks so composed now on the ball. He’s got a great stature. How he presses is fantastic; it allows the others to play.

“He’s really clever now in how he presses the game. Jordan’s an outstanding talent and he’s getting better.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool goalkeeper Mignolet has revealed that training alongside Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez has made him a better goalkeeper.

Mignolet joined Liverpool from Sunderland last summer and was keen to talk up the impact that his new team-mates have had on his ability - particularly Sturridge and Suarez.

"I see it day in, day out and I know what they can do to the opposition," Mignolet told the Guardian. "I know what other goalkeepers are in for and the quality Daniel and Luis have.

"Together it is unbelievable. It's nice to play against them day in, day out on the training pitch because they make me better as a goalkeeper. If you go one v one against either of them, as a goalkeeper you learn lots of things."
