Oviedo suffered a clean break to his tibia and fibia, which will likely see him miss the World Cup with Costa Rica, who face England in Belo Horizonte on June 24.

The injury occurred 15 minutes into the match when Oviedo's studs appeared to get caught in the turf at the Lamex Stadium as he slid in to make a challenge on Stevenage's Simon Heslop. His Everton teammates immediately called for medical attention, with Oviedo eventually carried off on a stretcher.

"It was a real negative today, an unfortunate incident. We end up with Bryan picking up a bad injury," said Everton boss Roberto Martinez. "We need to give him as much support as we can.

"He's had a terrific season. I've been so impressed with his level, that he can play in different positions. He's a really important player in the group. We want to make sure everything goes well because he deserves it.

"The incident with Bryan affected everyone. Those injuries give you a bad taste, but it was a very professional performance from our point of view."
