Liverpool striker Yesil out for season
Young Liverpool striker Samed Yesil is out for the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament for the second time in less than a year.
Yesil, 19, was out for eight months after sustained his first knee injury in February 2013 while on international duty with Germany’s under-19 squad.
After fighting his way back to fitness, Yesil has suffered a second injury in training, and is awaiting surgery.
The forward, signed for one million pounds from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2012, has featured mainly for Liverpool’s under-21 side since arriving on Merseyside.
Under-21 coach Alex Inglethorpe told the Liverpool Echo: “Unfortunately Samed has suffered a reoccurrence of his knee injury.
“It’s a horrible situation for him. He had only just recovered from the previous injury.
“We will give him all the support he needs. He’s a great character and I am sure he will come back strongly from this.”
Yesil has yet to feature in the Premier League for Liverpool, but did play in last season’s Capital One Cup ties against West Brom and Swansea.
