Daniel Agger out for a month

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has confirmed he is likely to be out injured with a calf strain for a month.

Daniel Agger has started just five games this season.
Daniel Agger confirmed the news on Twitter.

Agger, 29, picked up the injury late on during Sunday's 2-0 FA Cup third-round win against Oldham at Anfield.

And the Denmark international, who quashed talk of a January exit from the club on Thursday, expressed his frustration at the setback via his official Twitter account.

Agger's absence is a blow to Reds manager Brendan Rodgers, although he has received some positive injury news of late.

Defender Mamadou Sakho has recovered from a hamstring strain ahead of Sunday's trip to Stoke, while striker Daniel Sturridge is back in full training having been sidelined with a sprained ankle since November. Reds captain Steven Gerrard, who has overcome a hamstring strain, played 77 minutes against Oldham to add to the 30 minutes he gained after coming on against Hull last week.

“Over Christmas we were unfortunate we had a number of injuries which brought the squad down to about 15 players,'' Rodgers said. “Thankfully over this last week we are starting to get one or two back and they are very important players for us.

“Steven [Gerrard] came back into the fold against Oldham, which was great, and Daniel is back training now, which is brilliant for us.”
